The Palacio de la Música Mexicana is a modern museum and concert venue in Mérida’s historic center, dedicated to the conservation and promotion of Mexican and Indigenous music. Opened in 2018, the building combines contemporary design with cultural purpose

Architecture & Opening

Designed by Muñoz Arquitectos and other firms, the building was inaugurated on June 25, 2018, on the site of the former Yucatán State Congress. Awarded “Work of the Year 2019” by Obras magazine, it spans approximately 8,800 m² over four levels 

Concert Hall

A 458-seat concert hall clad in regional woods offers exceptional acoustics and live-streaming capabilities, supporting both performance and preservation .

Patio & Terrace

The central “string patio,” with steel rods evoking piano strings, accommodates around 350 guests, as does the rooftop terrace overlooking the historic city .

Galleries & Educational Spaces

Includes exhibition galleries, classrooms, meeting rooms, and multimedia pavilions showcasing pre-Hispanic, folk, and Yucatecan music—complete with interactive installations and virtual museum sections 

Mission & Impact

Operated by the Centro Nacional de la Música Mexicana, its goal is to preserve and disseminate diverse Mexican musical traditions—from trova and jarana to Indigenous and popular genres
