Dona i Ocell

Dona i Ocell on Joan Miro’s park

Dona i Ocell ("Woman and Bird") is a 22-meter-high sculpture located in the Parc Joan Miró in Barcelona, Spain. The sculpture was created by artist Joan Miró, and was covered in tiles by Miró's collaborator, Joan Gardy Artigas. The sculpture is part of a trilogy commissioned from Miró to welcome visitors to Barcelona. The concrete structure was opened in 1983 and was one of Miró's last large sculptures. Miró was unable to attend the opening due to illness and he passed away less than a year later.

The sculpture uses some of Miró's recurring themes of women and birds, and is decorated in primary colors with a vulva-shaped split down the side of the shaft lined with black tiles. Car passengers arriving in Barcelona can see the strong colors of the tiles, which are indicative of Miró's style. The sculpture is a prominent feature of the Parc Joan Miró and is a popular attraction for visitors to the city.
